The Bojangles Coliseum, located at 2700 E Independence Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28205, is a versatile arena renowned for hosting a variety of events, including hockey games, concerts, graduations, and other live performances.
Opened in 1955, this iconic domed arena was once celebrated as the largest free-span dome in the world. Today, it continues to be a significant venue in Charlotte, attracting visitors for its diverse programming and rich history.
Before attending an event, be sure to check the venue's official website for the latest schedules, bag policies, and parking information. This will help ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience during your visit.

Fitting the Coliseum into a Race-Week Trip
Bojangles Coliseum sits on the east side of Charlotte, closer to uptown than to the speedway, so it works well as an evening stop on days when there is no on-track action in Concord. Many race-week visitors base themselves near the track or along the I-85 corridor. Treat the drive between Concord and Independence Boulevard as a real cross-town trip, not a quick hop. Traffic on Independence Boulevard and the interstates can build up at rush hour, and the roads around Concord get far busier on major race weekends. If you plan to do both on the same day, leave generous buffers.
Before you go
- Confirm the event type. The building hosts everything from ice hockey to concerts and ceremonies. Seating layouts, door times and permitted items can change from one event to the next.
- Check ticket sources carefully. Buy through the venue's official ticketing channels or the event promoter where you can. Our tickets advice covers how to spot risky resale listings.
- Plan parking or a ride. Read the official parking information ahead of time. If you use rideshare, agree on a pickup point, because exits can be crowded when a show lets out.
- Dress for the setting. Hockey nights mean a cool arena, even after a hot day at the track.
A piece of Charlotte history
The Coliseum opened in the mid-1950s and is one of Charlotte's longest-serving entertainment buildings. Its distinctive dome roof is still a recognisable landmark on the city's east side. Next door is Ovens Auditorium, a theatre that hosts its own touring shows and performances. It is worth checking what is on at both buildings if you are planning a night out in the area.
Arena events can be a relaxed counterpoint to the noise and scale of the speedway, which makes them a good choice for groups with mixed interests.
